I have been doing this forever. When I was younger I liked to decorate and redecorate my room but it turns out that going to middle school doesn’t pay so well so I had to get innovative.
Yes, I got in trouble for cutting up my clothes and yes, it was totally worth it! (Especially since even back then decorative pillows could easily run between $15-30). Nowadays I try to stick to old or stained clothing but occasionally there’s a color or pattern that’s just too tempting…you understand.
You will need:
Old T-shirt
Ugly pillow
Needle
Thread
Fabric marker/pencil
Scissors
Begin by placing your pillow inside the shirt to make sure it will fit. It should be snug on both sides and not baggy.
Now pull out the pillow and flip your shirt inside out.
Carefully line up the bottom seams. You can iron these if you’d like (I was too lazy).
Thread your needle and sew the two sides together.
Flip your shirt right side out and place the pillow inside to see how it fits. Your seam should now look like this…
and your shirt should look like this. Make a small mark on the fabric where the pillow ends but the shirt keeps going.
Remove the pillow and begin trimming off the excess fabric buy cutting 1″ above your mark. (I folded the shirt in half while cutting to save time).
Once you finish place the pillow back inside your almost finished pillowcase.
Start at one end and begin to carefully fold the edges inward. Try to keep everything nice and even.
When you’re done thread your needle once more and begin to sew the two edges together. This seam will be visible so be sure to use the right color of thread.
That’s it! You’re done.
The best part about this is that once you get bored of this fabric you can just cut it off and start all over with something new. :)
Style at will!

Exactly! Sometimes I go to Goodwill looking for fabric instead of clothes:)
