My sister in law recently opened an Etsy shop and it has got me thinking. I love Etsy and opening my own store has always been a back burner dream because…I can never think of anything to sell. Sure, I love to make things but for me the magic is in coming up with the idea/design for a product and then bringing it to life! Making the same thing over and over sounds tedious.
Anyways, right now with the book, trailer renovations, and blog I have way too much on my plate but in a few months opening my own store could be a possibility! Here are a few of my product ideas so far:
Like my favorite top and skirt. (Not that I would ever sell those-ha!) This is by far my favorite idea and the one that gets me the most excited to think about. Since I have very limited storage space to work with this would work out well as long as I didn’t go too crazy with my selection. I wear vintage clothes as often as possible and I’m always out thrifting so why not combine the two into a business? As an added bonus I would be “forced” to research past fashion trends in order to become better acquainted with my inventory. Oh, no! ;)
However, I know that pictures are a huge selling point on Etsy and since I’m still pretty new to the TN area I’d only be able to stock clothes in my size if I wanted to have them modeled on a real person in photos.
These are so cute but their also quite time consuming to make so the price would need to reflect that. Paper headbands are more delicate than clothing so I’d have to be extra careful when shipping them if I wanted the products to arrive in one piece. These could also be difficult to store if I wanted to make orders ahead of time.
Speaking of headbands aren’t these great? Before clicking be warned! These were for a period party. The picture is right before the uterus cookies…yep.
These are really fun to make and I have plenty of ideas but would I want to design a new product to replace each one that was sold? Because I’m not making two of the same card, that breaks pretty much every personal value I uphold. Haha, not really but as much as I dislike doing the same thing over and over you might think that. :) Maybe it’s just something I need to get over if I want to break into the Etsy world?

Etsy is really fun to do! That said, it’s also very time consuming. Especially vintage clothes I found. I felt like I spent a ton of time just photographing the clothes, and I also always included exact measurements which kind of became time consuming to always have to pull them out to get everything.
I definitely think I’ll have a store again (maybe etsy, maybe not) but I don’t see myself doing vintage clothes again.
The headbands are so lovely though, I think they might sell really well:)

You should do it! I have a store….but I never list anything, lol. I became to much of a hassle for me. But I bet you would sell plenty!
