playful engagment shoot ampersand

I truly can’t believe we’ve only been married for two years. It feels like I’ve already spent a lifetime with this guy.

To mark our second anniversary I thought you might like to see a few of our engagement pictures! (I always love it when other bloggers share these.)

We decided to have ours done at a local park that had a lot of history for us, even before we began dating. We geocached there together, once after losing my phone in that park he chivalrously helped me look for it, and it even had a secret meet-up place we called the Zombie Tree. Oh, the memories…

What about ring? Bob had already asked me what I wanted and I had confessed that I felt pretty conflicted because although I loved pretty sparklers I’d read about the diamond trade and didn’t want to support something so unethical. I also wanted to travel and do humanitarian work someday as a nurse (still do) and knew that having a giant rock on my finger in a third world country was probably not the best idea. That’s when he said, “What if I make you one?”

Um…what?! Obviously he knew how because he ended up crafting me a gorgeous handmade wood ring. The ring was inlaid with crushed emerald his grandmother had found while rock collecting and it was beautiful. It certainly wasn’t your typical engagement ring but it was very, very special to me.

I know this is such an old fogey thing to say but looking through these reminds me that we’re so different now from who we were then. We even look different. It’s crazy how much can change in such a short period of time.

Oh, and those glasses Bob is wearing? They are no more. I ruined them by accidentally spraying them with glue while making our wedding invites. Whoops!

So cute, thanks for sharing these! A wood ring with crushed vintage emeralds? Wow, stunning. I need an up-close shot of that please! :) xo

Thanks, Shannon! I’m not a huge ring person so when we actually got married I put it away for safe keeping and only wear my wedding ring. I’ll have to rummage around and find it though:)

Sweet pictures!!! Great to read your story. My favorite detail has to be the secret place to meet called Zombie Tree (!) and of course, the ring, which must be amazing. Btw, swooning over the last location of your pics! :)

We named it that because the tree had fallen down (over a creek so it made a cool bridge) but it still budded in the spring. We still like to visit it from time to time when we head home. :)
