DIy snowball bath bombs
DIY snowball bath fizzies

bath bombs winter

No snow? No problem! Here in Kansas City we have yet to see a single snowflake so I’ve been using these bath bombs to conjure up my own white Christmas.

These cute little snowballs are seriously fun to make. You shape and pack them just like a real snowball! Obviously this would make the cutest homemade present ever. Especially if you happen to have friends and family who live where it never snows?

Story Time! Some soap dust got in my eye while taking that first picture and it hurt SO BAD. My eye starting tearing up and my make-up went crazy so I had to run inside to wash my eye out. Andrew (who was kindly filling in as photographer) was cracking up. I had to laugh too it was so ridiculous. I haven’t got soap in my eye since I was 5! Anyways, you’ve been warned. Do not get soap in your eye while making these bath bombs!

You Will Need:
1 cup Baking soda
1/2 cup Citric acid
1/2 cup Epsom salts
1 teaspoon Water
2 teaspoons essential oil of your choice
4 teaspoons coconut oil
1 bar Ivory soap

Begin by mixing together just the dry ingredients in a bowl. The baking soda and citric acid came out of the package kinda clumpy for me so I made sure to go through and break apart all the bumps until I was left with fine powder.

In a separate bowl mix the wet ingredients. You can add a few drops of food coloring at this time if you want but I like white snowballs!

Do be sure to use coconut oil and not olive oil or another colorful oil. My first batch turned yellow because I tried olive oil and when I tried to adjust by adding blue food coloring…well…you know what happened. I do not like green eggs and snowballs, Sam I Am!

SLOWLY add the liquid mixture to the dry mixture.

Stir the mixture with a fork. It will look powdery but it sticks together surprisingly well! If it’s still too dusty to shape into balls add a teaspoon or two more of oil.

Set the snowball mixture aside for just a minute and shred a nice pile of soap flakes, a.k.a snowflakes. Do make sure it’s a fresh bar of soap because the first bar I used just crumbled when I tried to grate it.

Now the fun part! Make your snowballs! Shape the bath bomb mixture into balls just like you would an actual snowball.

Now take a handful of your snowflakes and pat/smush them around the snowball. This adds texture and makes your snowball look more realistic.

Repeat until you run out of  the bath bomb mixture. Enjoy your snowballs!
