Are these not the cutest oven mitts ever??? I was super thrilled with how they turned out so I sent my sister like 20 snaps of them and now she’s complaining that I’m blowing up her phone. Hey girl, that’s what you get for being related to a crafty person.
Our apartment complex has a public grill and I kinda want to go down and grill something right now just to show these off! Everyone will probably be more distracted by my grilling technique than by my oven mitts though because I always make a huge mess and can never get the grill to start in the first place. ^_^
You Will Need:
2 green oven mitts
Light pink felt
Dark pink felt
Black fabric paint
Yellow thread
Needle
Psst! Please make sure to use WOOL felt for this project because many craft stores only carry plastic felt which melts against hot surfaces. Not a good choice for oven mitts…
Start by using the fabric paint and a small paintbrush to paint spines on your cactus. I used short lines or small triangles to capture that pokey look. Let dry.
Trace a 1 1/2″ circle onto the dark pink WOOL felt and trace a 1″ circle onto the light pink WOOL felt.
Cut out your felt circles and begin shaping the petals. I like the bottom flower to be round and soft with a sharper flower on top. Up to you!
Thread your needle and began sewing the two flowers together by sewing an asterisk (*) shape in the middle of the flower.
Position the flower where you like on your oven mitt and sew the flower to the cactus. I did this by continuing to sew the same asterisk shape as before but this time I made sure the needle went through the oven mitt fabric too.
When you are satisfied that the flower is firmly sewed on flip the oven mitt inside out. Tie a knot and cut your thread.
You did it! What’s the first thing you’re going to cook with your new cactus oven mitts?
